“Living Beyond Myself”
I’m #1!
It’s all about me!
I don’t care about anybody but me, myself,
and Irene! (or something like that)
Sound familiar? These are the words to the
soundtrack of our lives. Living in America in the 21st century
encourages self-fulfillment at any price … fun and games all day long … pleasure
and entertainment 24/7 …
Then along comes Jesus and bursts our bubble. Into this culture
of comfort he speaks strange-sounding words:
“Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.” (Matthew
20:26)
Servant? Who’s Jesus kidding? Nobody
wants to be a servant!
But Jesus is serious, dead serious. He served
to the point of giving his life for ours. That’s what he
meant when he said:
“For even I came here not to be served but to serve others,
and to give my life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28)
All of us who want to follow Jesus must learn
to serve like Jesus served. We must look for people’s needs, seek to meet those
needs, and do it in his name. But it’s not that easy. Hardwired
into each of us is a selfish spirit that resists serving. The only
way to change that is for God to re-wire us into servants after
his own heart. And that is exactly what we pray will happen during
the next month.
“Living Beyond Myself” is the new series of messages
that Jim and I will be bringing to you over the next four Sundays.
It’s an up-close-and-personal look at how to develop a lifestyle
of serving. As we explore various ways to serve God and others,
we will also help you discern your interests, passions, gifts,
and how they all fit into the Body of Christ. Here are the topics
we will address:

Great Gamble
Oct 29 What,

Few things would make Jesus smile bigger than to
see everyone at PTCC gaining a servant’s heart. I want that … don’t
you?
