What a new year we are about to experience at
Preston Trail Community Church! By God’s grace we are poised to grow spiritually and
numerically like never before. Here’s what I see.
1. We have just taken a huge step of faith.
For a start-up church to envision its future on Main Street in
a building that will become the fifth largest church facility in
Frisco is a sign of trusting God for the impossible. But God came
through at every step along the way, and we are closer than ever
to having a place of our own to be a center of ministry to people
in Jesus’ name. By definition,
faith is growth!
2. We have just committed money to Jesus. Dream Big was
a success ($1.6 million pledged) because you decided to part with
your hard-earned money so God can use it for His eternal purposes.
Any time you do that, you grow more like Christ.
3. We are growing closer to God through His Word, the Bible. Every
week people are opening up their Bibles in worship and in small groups
to listen to what God is saying to them. And whether God speaks through
Jim or me in a message, or through a friend in a small group, or
simply through the Holy Spirit who gives insight into biblical truths,
we hear God speak. And when that happens, a church is right where
God wants it to be!
4. We are growing closer to each other. Recently
I’ve spoken
to men who are in CLC groups, to women in Ladies Bible Studies, and
to couples who are in Life Groups. All have told me how much they
count on the friends they have made in these groups. Never underestimate
the power of a good friend who loves you enough to pray for you,
encourage you, challenge you, and tell you the truth. That’s
a recipe for spiritual growth!
5. We are watching God change people on the
inside. One of the sure signs of God’s presence is when people who are broken find
healing – spiritually, emotionally, mentally. God’s
grace is transforming people at PTCC! He is turning folks from
takers into givers, from haters into lovers, from doubters into
trusters, and from observers into activists. I have the privilege
of listening to some of their stories, and they are inspirational
with a capital I!
6. We are seeing God answer prayers in big ways.
Seventeen days ago it appeared to all of us that Ryan Hairston’s life was
hanging by a slender thread after barely surviving a terrible car
accident. For many days and night our people (and others around the
country) joined hearts and minds and begged God to let Ryan live,
to heal him, and to restore him to leading our student ministry.
Against all odds, Ryan is improving every day. He may even come home
from the hospital in just a few more days. That’s what I
call a miracle!
Who knows exactly what God will do in and through
PTCC in 2006? I sure don’t. All I know is that His grace
and faithfulness have brought us this far ... and I believe we
are about to experience something greater than we have ever known
in His Kingdom. Let it be, Lord.
