Everyone Likes a Compliment . . .
Monday Robin, Tyler (our boomerang child), and
I helped our son, Brady, move into his new dorm at Texas Tech. Tuesday morning
we flew home. As you can imagine Robin’s spirit was a
little down as we boarded the plane. That changed quickly,
however, when a nice looking younger man taking a seat nearby looked
at Tyler and asked if he was her brother. Talk about having
your spirit lifted. She scarcely needed Southwest to fly her
home! Of course, I’m sitting there thinking, “Hey
buddy, that’s the oldest line in the book!” Nevertheless,
I got to see firsthand again how a compliment can change one’s
whole outlook! Everyone likes a compliment!
As I have been observing PTCC lately I’ve been amazed by the
way so many of you are living out your faith in such practical ways. So
much so, that I wanted to pass on some well deserved compliments:
You are reaching out! We had a record number
of guests last week. Even though, we sent out a large mailer,
many of them came because of your invitation. The way God grows
his family is one life at a time. One person tells another
person about his life-changing love and then they tell another person
and the cycle goes on and on. That’s the way churches
grow, too. One person who is fired up about how they are discovering
life with God and growing spiritually at their church tells another
person and the cycle begins.
I can’t tell you how rewarding it is for Paul and me when
we speak with a newcomer and find out that they came at your invitation. You
are making an eternal difference in their lives. Way to go!
You are incredibly compassionate! As
you know our Christmas celebration was marred by Ryan’s accident. Methodist
Hospital was overrun by Preston Trailers! Continual prayers,
support for Ryan’s and Laura’s families, and the endless
stream of food in the CCU waiting room are just some of the expressions
of your caring spirit. Last night a group of our folks organized
a prayer meeting for Stephanie Johnson, a former member of the PTCC
family who is struggling with a reoccurrence of cancer. It
doesn’t matter that Stephanie and her husband, Greg, and their
three children moved to Houston almost a year ago. Your compassion
truly reflects the heart of Jesus. You are amazing!
You are unbelievably generous! Not
only did you pledge to give 1.7 million dollars over the next three
years to Dream Big and the purchase of the PC Dynamics building,
you also gave to our ongoing ministry fund at a record pace. We received
over $100,000 in December alone. You have taken the Apostle
Paul’s challenge in 2 Corinthians 8:7 to heart. You are
learning to excel in the grace of giving! God will make you
rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion,
and through PTCC your generosity will result in many giving thanks
to God!
With these awesome strengths and the blessing
of God, Preston Trail has an extraordinary year ahead. My
prayer is that you will be smack dab in the middle of all that
God wants to do through us!
See you at the AMC Theatre this Sunday. Paul
continues our new series re:solutions. He
will be helping us to get on the solution side of the persistent
problem of taking care of our bodies. You won’t want
to miss it!
Be strong and courageous!
Jim
