Chapter Two Now Meets Weekly!

One of the favorite books in my library is an illustrated book by David Macaulay entitled, The Way Things Work.  If you have a single curious bone in your body you will love this book.  You can discover how everything from rack and pinion steering to the disk drive in your computer works.  Knowing how something works not only helps you appreciate it more, but also how to improve on it to make it even more effective.

In the spirit of Macaulay’s book I want to appeal to your natural curiosity and help you understand a little better how Preston Trail Community Church is designed to work.  If you’ve been around the church much at all you know that our mission statement is  . . . “To give our lives to help people find and follow Jesus Christ.  Everything we do at PTCC is intended either to help people begin a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ or grow to full maturity in it.

Briefly, our church has three moving parts:

Weekend Services—The Worship Service, KidStreet, Incite, CurbSide, and the Backyard are our culturally relevant environments where we invite people who are seeking to find a relationship with God, or “returners,” those who have been away from the church for a season.  These services focus primarily, but not exclusively, on connecting seekers and returners with God and encouraging them to respond in faith.  Out of their love for God and others, numerous believers use their time, spiritual gifts, and innate abilities as strategic volunteers in this Herculean effort reach as many people as possible.

Chapter Two—focuses primarily, but not exclusively, on believers and is the venue where God’s Word is taught in-depth by gifted teachers, where we minister to each other in prayer, and celebrate the Lord’s Supper.  This is the place where believers who are serving on the weekends can be spiritually nourished and recharged for the mission of reaching seekers on the weekend.  It is also the place for new believers to begin the adventure of growing as a disciple of Jesus.

Small Groups—provide a living laboratory in which we learn to experience deep friendships and biblical community.  We have five different kinds of groups.  Life Groups are ongoing groups in which people seek to grow in relationship with God and with each other.  Crown Groups equip students to handle resources in a way that honor God and provide the financial security we all desire.  Starting Point Groups are for those who are new to the faith and want a chance to learn the basics of faith and walking with Christ.  Ladies Bible Studies provide both stay at home and career moms an opportunity to grow in their faith in community with other women.  CLC Groups are for men and equip them to be spiritual leaders in every arena of their lives.

For most of our church’s life we’ve been operating with only two of our three parts functioning at peak capacity.  But beginning Wednesday, January 18, Chapter Two goes weekly and now we will have a venue where believers can worship and experience in-depth Bible Study.  We are excited to announce this update to our schedule and invite you to come and grow with us as in a study of Matthew’s Gospel entitled, Jesus: Up Close and Personal.  Remember we offer childcare for birth through 5 years of age.  Come join us as we recharge our spirits and grow in our love and devotion to Christ!

Expectantly,

Jim
