“Year End Giving”

If someone from the IRS comes to your door and says, “I’m here to help,” you normally try to disappear. After all, when was the last time the IRS helped you?

But things are different this year. Due to the generosity generated by Hurricane Katrina, the federal government is actually helping you maximize year-end giving. Here’s how.

On September 23, 2005, President Bush signed into law a bill from Congress that provides new tax incentives for charitable gifts. Although designed to help Katrina donors, Congress expanded the bill to include gifts to all charitable organizations.

The new law, called the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005 (KETRA or H.R. 3768) temporarily suspends the 50% cap on the deductibility of certain charitable contributions. In other words, a donor may contribute and deduct gifts up to 100% of his or her adjusted gross income, provided that the gift is made:

  • In cash,
  • Between August 28, 2005 and December 31, 2005, and
  • To any charitable organization, not just those engaged in Katrina relief efforts.

KETRA impacts our church directly and positively. Every December many folks at PTCC give year-end offerings to our church’s ministries. If you do so before December 31, 2005, those gifts are covered by this Relief Act because PTCC is a federally recognized non-profit 501c3 charitable organization. That means you stand to receive more tax credit on your 2005 IRS return than in previous years.

To take advantage of this highly unusual financial break afforded in 2005 by the IRS, be sure your gifts are postmarked no later than December 31 to count on this year's tax return.

If mailing your gifts, please send them to:

Preston Trail Community Church
PO Box 490
Frisco, TX 75034

For more information on KETRA, contact your tax advisor or go to online to www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=1493.

May God bless our generosity as we “give our lives to help people find and follow Jesus Christ.”

Merry Christmas!

Paul Basden, senior pastor

PS – After the first of the year, we will offer you two avenues for regular giving to PTCC: online giving through our website (www.prestontrail.org) and offering envelopes mailed to your home every month.
