Making the Most of Our Opportunities

If you were interviewing tomorrow for a job you want, you would try to put your best foot forward. You would dress nicely, speak clearly, and hope to make a good first impression. You would be trying to make the most of that opportunity, right?

But did you know that “Make the most of every opportunity” is also a biblical command found in Ephesians 5:16? Last night at Chapter Two Jim reminded us of that verse and invited us to consider the opportunities before us as a church. Here are some that we want you to “make the most of”:

  1. We are set to close on our land and building on February 6. The old PC Dynamics building at 10501 FM 720 is about to be the future home of Preston Trail Community Church. YEA!

The opportunity before us is to tell as many people as we can about our new building (aka ministry center) and invite them to join us on Sundays at PTCC – both now at AMC and in August at our new location.

  1. It looks like we will have enough cash on hand to close on the building and land, thanks to your year-end gifts to Dream Big!Our challenge is to have enough money to make monthly payments on the loan once the summer rolls around and we will be paying out costs for interior renovations.

The opportunity before us is to give regularly to Dream Big all year long, according to how you made your Dream big commitment.

  1. New families are attending our services every Sunday. We are having record numbers of preschoolers, children, and students. What we are offering people is meeting the spiritual needs of many.

The opportunity before us is to serve as volunteers in those areas on a regular basis. If you appreciate someone caring for your 3 year-old in The Backyard, please sign up to work a Sunday. Ditto for CurbSide (children) and Incite (students). We have wonderful volunteers – sign up to serve this week!

  1. Ryan Hairston, our student minister who was in an awful wreck December 19, continues to recover well. For regular updates on his condition, go to www.prestontrail.org, click on “Preston Trail Family” at the top, then click on Ryan’s picture on the next page. You will be inspired as you read how God is working in his and Laura’s lives through this near-tragedy.

The opportunity before us is to pray for people with desperate needs. It may be a family member, a co-worker, or a friend. The need may be physical, emotional, or spiritual. But when you pray for someone else, you are “interceding” for them before God. You are asking God to reach out to them with His love and power. And He will hear and answer!

These are four great opportunities. Let’s make the most of each one!

Paul Basden, senior pastor

PS – Jim’s message this Sunday is about making “small but significant” changes in your life, changes that will positively affect everything you do. You won’t want to miss it.
