“Ladies
and Gentlemen, We Have Liftoff …”
Getting a rocket off the ground takes a lot of energy and work.
Our church has been trying to buy the PC Dynamics
building for six months, and we’ve spent hours and hours trying to make it happen.
When Jim and I finally signed the closing documents this past Monday
afternoon, I felt like the man on the loudspeaker at Kennedy Space
Center when the rocket finally leaves the earth and begins soaring
into space. I wanted to scream out, “Ladies and gentlemen,
we have liftoff…!”
I can’t think of anything more exciting than this great victory – God
has led us to locate and purchase a building that we can use for
our ministry center. It’s taken quite a while, but we finally
have liftoff.
Several things happened over the last fifteen months to get us off
the ground:
- In November 2004 Jim told me, “We need to assemble a team
of people to search for land.” With all the faith I could
muster I said, “Land for what?! We can’t afford land or a
building!” Thankfully Jim saw the next step and we acted
on it.
- For nine months the Property Acquisition Team looked faithfully
for land that we could build on one day, but what we found was
either too small or too expensive.
- Then in mid-July we found out about the PC Dynamics building
at 10501 FM 720. We looked at it, liked it, and sensed that God
was guiding us to it.
- We made two offers to the bank. Both were rejected. We were frustrated.
- Then in mid-Fall the bank countered with
an offer that we could accept, and we got excited! By God’s
grace, and with the help of lots of PTCC folks, we did our due
diligence and found answers to all our questions.
- On February 6, 2006, we closed on our property. We now own 4.5
acres of prime real estate in Frisco, along with a 45,000 sf building
that is going to be renovated over the next six months.
In the meantime, we had a capital fundraising campaign which was
a huge success. Dream Big resulted in over $1.6 million
in pledges and gifts. And when we told you this past Sunday that
we were $51,000 short of cash for closing the next day, you responded
by giving $54,000 on the spot! Go PTCC!
Can’t you just see the hand of God in
this whole process? What a faithful God we serve!
Now here are our next steps:
- Land clearing – We need to get rid of a little grove of
old trees that are eyesores. “Chain saw Saturday” is
set for February 18! Coffee and donuts are at 8:30. “Start
your engines” is at 9. Our motto: 220 … 221 … whatever
it takes!!!
- Demolition – PTCC folks will remove
carpet, floor tile, and ceiling tile during February. Other light
demo projects will follow. (This will save us a lot of $.)
- Design – The architects will have
construction drawings ready April 1.
- Construction – The head contractor
and subs will do their work in 12-14 weeks, meaning that we can
move in around late July or early August.
Along the way we will give you Sunday updates on all aspects of
the project: demolition, construction, and funding. You may also
go to www.prestontrail.org for
regular reports.
God has been really good to our church. I’m excited that He
trusts us enough with people that He would allow us to have this
building – one of the premier church sites in Frisco. Now may
we be found trustworthy…
Flying high,
Paul Basden
Senior Pastor
