24
People either love 24 or they
haven’t seen
it. If you watch it once--you are hooked. For those of
you who haven’t taken the plunge, it is about the intense trials
and tribulations of Counter Terrorist Agent Jack Bauer. In
the first four seasons he has thwarted terrorists who have tried
to assassinate a president, detonate a nuclear weapon on U.S. soil,
release a deadly virus into the population, and cause a meltdown
of nuclear reactors all across the country.
This season a group of Russian terrorists, with
still unknown alliances, is threatening to kill hundreds of thousands
in L.A. with Centox nerve gas. Can he possibly save America again? Unfortunately,
you’ll have to wait until May to find out.
The unique element in 24 is
that all the action in the season series takes place in one twenty
four hour period. Each
week you get to watch one hour, in real time, of Jack’s tumultuous
life. There are some constants in the production that you begin
to count on. Every episode begins with the cryptic phrase, “Previously
on 24.” After you’ve been caught
up on last week’s action, as if you wouldn’t have Tivoed
it if you had to miss it, the next hour of suspense is simply introduced, “THE
FOLLOWING TAKES PLACE BETWEEN 9:00 A.M. AND 10: A.M.” Then—hold
on to your seat, check your heart rate a couple of times, and expect
the unexpected!
The punch of 24 lies in its
ability to pull you into a day in the life of Jack Bauer and our
country that could change the course of our nation and way of life. Everything we know
and love seems at stake. Everything hangs in the balance. This
isn’t just any ole day. This is a day which could live
in infamy, to quote a former president.
This Sunday we begin a brand new message series entitled 24. We
won’t be talking about days which just changed the direction
of a country, however. We’ll be talking about four days
which changed eternity. Here’s the series lineup:
March 26: The Day it All Began
April 2: The Day it Crashed
April 9: The Day it Went Dark
April 16: The Day Everything Changed (Easter)
I hope you’ll make a special effort to invite a neighbor or
co-worker to come and experience these powerful and life-changing
messages. It could make an eternal difference!
See you Sunday,
Jim
