Jewish Passover Service April 6
When Jesus ate his last supper on earth, he celebrated Passover with his Jewish followers. Unfortunately, the rest of what happened that night is lost to all of us non-Jews. But on Friday night April 6, that meal will take on new meaning for us as John Canter, a Messianic Jew, comes to PTCC to explain what Passover meant to Jews and to Jesus. John will first teach us what this sacred feast meant in the Jewish community. Next he will show us how Jesus is the fulfillment of many of the symbols at the meal. Finally he will guide us to partake of the cup and bread and bitter herbs that are common at a Passover meal, and are what Jesus shared with his followers. The service will be from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Bring your older children with you – we will sit at round tables in the worship center. Childcare will be available for newborns through pre-K at a modest cost, so make your reservations early by contacting info@prestontrail.org. (Be sure to eat beforehand – this is not a meal.)

My Favorite Week of Spring

My favorite week of summer is the week we take family vacation. I love being lazy with my wife and girls.

My favorite week of fall is Thanksgiving week. I enjoy the combination of food, family, and football.

My favorite week of winter is the week leading up to Christmas. The flurry of activity and excitement whets my appetite for December 25.

And my favorite week of spring is Holy Week, the week preceding Easter. The slow movement from Christ’s suffering to death to new life is like a crescendo in music – it goes from eerily quiet to deafeningly loud.

At PTCC we want you to experience that spiritual crescendo as much as possible. To help that occur, we have planned two events.

On Friday night we will celebrate a Passover Seder service at 7 PM in the worship center. John Kanter, a Messianic Jew, will lead the service and explain the meaning behind the Passover meal that Jesus shared with his disciples on Crucifixion Eve. As at traditional Passover meals, we will partake of the cup, the bread, and the bittersweet blend of herbs and spices. Here are some things to remember as you make plans:

  • This is NOT a full meal, so be sure to eat before you come.
  • Children first grade and older can join you at your table for the service.
  • Childcare for kids kindergarten and younger is available for a nominal fee. Make your reservation by contacting the church office at info@prestontrail.org.

Then on Easter Sunday we will celebrate Jesus’ resurrection at our 9:30 and 11:00 services. Jim will bring a message that day entitled “The Lost Tomb of Jesus,” challenging the highly publicized TV documentary that claims the bones of Jesus’ family – including his own – have been found in a grave outside Jerusalem. This message is the first in a new series called “Expose’,” in which Jim and I will expose the attempts of those who are trying to discredit Christianity or confuse Christians. Here are some things to remember as you prepare for Easter Sunday:

  • Due to a much larger-than-normal expected attendance, please park on Red Cedar behind the church building if at all possible. The walk is not long, and it will free up dozens of parking spaces for newcomers. Husbands and dads, you may want to drop off your family at the front of the church, then drive over to Red Cedar to park. See map below.
  • This is a great opportunity to invite a friend to join you at PTCC. Pray for openness on their part … then ask! You never know what God might do.

See you this weekend for a true celebration,

Paul Basden, senior pastor
