Picture This

Our home is filled with pictures. Pictures of our older daughter with a hot pink streak in her hair (college!) … of our younger daughter in a Ninja Turtle costume for Halloween (circa 1991) … of beach vacations with Jim and Robin Johnson and their kids … of our dog Abby … of my wife Denise in her wedding gown … of my parents when they were engaged … and the list goes on.

Do you know why I love these pictures? Because they help me remember the most important people and events in my life. I can’t re-live those moments or capture them completely in my memory, but I can look at pictures that remind me of them. And that seems to make them come alive all over again.

Christianity is based on events that happened in the distant past, twenty centuries ago. Those events center in God’s invasion of our universe through his Son, Jesus. Thousands of people saw Jesus face to face back then, but we can’t. Thankfully Christ left us some pictures that would help us remember him, that would allow us to “see” him again today. Those pictures are the subject of a new message series starting this Sunday. We’re calling it “Picture This.”

The three pictures that Jim and I will bring into focus are of a door, a bathtub, and a table. The door is a picture of how we find God in Christ. The bathtub is a picture of how we find cleansing from sin. The table is a picture of how we find spiritual nourishment every day. Taken together they point to the three most important symbols of our faith: Jesus, baptism, and communion. Don’t miss any of these services – they will help you remember the One who has changed your life forever.

One last word about this series: Sunday Jim is speaking about the first picture, a door. He is going to give us a super-clear picture of who Jesus is, how he introduces us to God, and how someone can choose to follow Jesus as their Leader and Forgiver. If you have a friend, family member, or neighbor who needs a message like that, invite them to join you on Sunday. What Jim has to say will be just what they need to hear.

Looking forward to a great May at PTCC,

Paul
