COMING SOON! New Summer Schedule
On Memorial Day Weekend, Sunday May 28th, Preston Trail Community Church will begin its summer schedule. We will have ONE service at 10:00 AM. Curbside and Backyard will also be at this time.
Our last KidStreet will be on Sunday, May 21st. Join us in celebrating our last time with the current KidStreet gang...”So long, gonna miss ya when you're gone...” will never sound the same.
We will resume back to two services starting this fall as we enter our new building. More details will be released as we get closer to that time.

It’s hard to believe another summer is just over the horizon.  Students and teachers are counting down the days and moms and dads are making vacation plans.  Ah summer!  Typically our family schedules slow down a bit and we get to let our spirits catch up with our fast-paced bodies.  And that is a good thing!

When it comes to PTCC, however, this is going to be an unusual summer to say the least.  We’ve got big plans to be in the building by late August, but a lot of preparation and hard work lie in front of us.  If you are up for a healthy challenge and enjoy seeing God’s work progress, I invite you to plug in and be a part of making this exciting move from the Theatre to our very own building.  In the rest of today’s Trail Notes I want to update you on some of these upcoming events and opportunities so you will be well informed and can begin to plan for your participation.

  • Baptism Celebration—May 21, 2006 at 5:00 PM.  We’ll gather for homemade ice cream (if your dad didn’t teach you to make homemade bring your favorite flavor of Blue Bell!) and baptism.  Baptism is the outward celebration of our inward commitment to faith in Christ.  It symbolizes all that PTCC is about—helping people find and follow Jesus!  We’ll be gathering at the home of Brian and Cindy Reinken at 4401 Mira Vista Dr in Frisco.  For directions go to our website at prestontrail.org and click on the Preston Trail Family link.
  • Building Permit—we are scheduled to receive our building permit on May 22.  This will finally allow us to begin work inside the building with our contractor, Mark Abel.  Once we get up and running it will take us 3-4 months to get everything done and in place.  There is a chance, therefore, that we may not get in the building until the first of September, but we are going to work hard to be in asap!
  • Budget Challenge—“timing is everything” as they say, and unfortunately we are starting our remodeling at a bad time.  Building costs are going up significantly because of increased petroleum prices.  One local builder is going to announce a hefty price increase June 1.  A national retailer headquartered in our area had to redesign appliqués on T-Shirts because of the increase in petroleum prices (whodathunkit?).  As a result, we are going to have to scale back our plans a bit.  We will do what we need to do to open the building and make an awesome first impression in key areas.  Then, we will complete the remodeling in phases as resources become available.
  • Serving Team Sign Ups—in July our message series will be entitled “Living Beyond Myself”.  We’ll be discovering how God blesses those who live for and serve His purposes.  At the conclusion of the series we will be challenging all who call PTCC their church home to sign up for a Serving Team.  We will be growing in numbers of Serving Teams as well as numbers of volunteers needed for each team.  One of the hallmarks of PTCC has been the incredible spirit of service.  We will all get to re-up and be a part of launching an incredible new chapter in our church’s life!
  • Online Giving—the response to our Online Giving has been huge!  Our giving is up about 20% over last year and many of you are taking advantage of this service.  As we move into the summer it is going to be imperative that we continue this strong trend, especially since now we have a monthly debt service payment!  In the summer as we travel it’s easy to get out of the rhythm of giving consistently.  Online Giving is a convenient way to continue supporting our church’s mission and vision while you are away.  Check it out at prestontrail.org and click on the Preston Trail Family link.  Then you’ll see the tab on the left hand menu.

Well, as you can see we’ve got some exciting growth opportunities ahead—both for the church and for each of us personally.  I encourage you to continue to engage your heart and soul in the great work God is doing in us!

Expectantly,
Jim

Weekend Service - The advent of the iPod makes it possible to take control of the music we listen to. We forget, though, that sometimes our music takes control of us. Listening to our playlists over and over can't help but shape our thoughts and actions. The question we should ask then, is our music telling us the truth? This week we continue a new series entitled Mi-Tunes. Over these six weeks Jim and Paul will examine some of today's most popular songs and help us hear what our music is really saying.
