Three Big Events

Three huge events are happening this weekend – here they are:

Baptism is this Sunday afternoon at 5 PM at the house of Brian and Cindy Reinken. See map. Right now 18 people are signed up to be baptized. That’s a great response! Join us for a moving service as these folks confess publicly their trust in Christ and love for God.  I’m always amazed at the power of God’s presence at our baptism celebrations. Don’t miss it … and if you know how to make homemade ice cream, make your favorite flavor and bring it with you!

Lisa Lloyd’s last day is this Sunday morning. Several weeks ago Lisa accepted an invitation to join the Prestonwood Baptist Church staff in the area of women’s ministry. See her letter. Although we hate to see her leave, her husband Markus has also joined the Prestonwood staff as director of creative programming for children. I know they need to serve in the same church … but we will surely miss Lisa. She has been a fabulous staff member here: organized, passionate about her ministry, a woman who keeps her word, committed to excellence, … the list goes on. Don’t miss Lisa’s last Sunday at PTCC – we will honor her at the end of each KidStreet.

The Da Vinci Code film is coming to theatres this weekend. While there’s been a lot of hoopla over the movie, here’s my simple advice: if you remember that it’s 100% fictional (especially the crazy idea that Jesus and Mary Magdalene wed and had a child together!), go see the movie if you want to; if you think the fictional elements will make you stumble spiritually, by all means don’t go see it. If you want to read or hear more about the film from a Christian perspective, check out any of these websites: http://www.campuscrusade.com/DaVinciquest/

Also, Sunday morning Jim will be speaking on loneliness, based on Green Day’s hit song “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” If you have any friends or co-workers who could benefit from this message, invite them to meet you in Theatre 16 at 9:30 or 11 AM.

God bless you this weekend,

Paul Basden
Senior Pastor

Weekend Service - The advent of the iPod makes it possible to take control of the music we listen to. We forget, though, that sometimes our music takes control of us. Listening to our playlists over and over can't help but shape our thoughts and actions. The question we should ask then, is our music telling us the truth? This week we continue a new series entitled Mi-Tunes. Over these six weeks Jim and Paul will examine some of today's most popular songs and help us hear what our music is really saying.
