Good Stuff Going On!

In the words of rocker Alice Cooper:

School’s out for summer . . .

No more pencils
No more books
No more teacher's dirty looks

Out for summer
Out till fall
We might not go back at all

I’ve been out of school for several decades now and still there is an inner sense of release that fills my spirit each year at this time . . . “School’s out for summer” means sleeping in, a respite from homework, later bedtimes, snow cones, and trip’s to far away places.  Even though we’ll be kickin’ back a bit, I wanted to remind you we’ve got some good stuff going on at Preston Trail.

A lot of us have big plans for this Memorial Day weekend.  Make sure, though, that they include worship Sunday morning.  Paul is going to be challenging us with a strategic message on a sixth “G” we are adding to our church’s strategy—GO!  We’ve sensed the Spirit leading us to begin a concerted effort to extend the compassion of Christ to our community and world in tangible ways.  A question we have been asking ourselves a lot lately is this, “If Preston Trail were to disappear from the face of the earth, would our community miss us?”  We want the answer to that to become a resounding YES!

Then, Monday about 100 youth and sponsors leave for Panama City Beach for Youth Camp 2007.  A dynamic speaker, Lee Taylor, and an awesome worship band will be leading our students in a week of spiritual and relational growth under the Florida sun.  Our 3rd-5th graders are not going quite that far, but they’ve got Adventure Camp June 11-15.  This Sunday is the last day to sign up, so don’t let your kids miss a week that could shape their hearts for God!

One last thing, I want to commend you again for your faithfulness in giving in these first five months of the new year.  As you know our expenses went up exponentially when we moved into the building, but our people have responded with overwhelming generosity.  As we move into the summer though, it’s imperative that we don’t have a large drop off in financial support.  Financial consultants tell us over and over again that people give to great visions.  Well, here’s one I’d like to paint for you this summer . . . imagine with me for a moment cool and well lit rooms in our new building . . . can you see them, can you feel them?

As you probably realize this is our first summer in our new building, and we aren’t sure how much it is going to cost to keep it up and running in these summer months.  So, having ample resources to support our student and children’s ministries and enough to keep the building functioning are two big needs we have.  One of the methods that many of our people have started utilizing is Online Giving.  Below you will see a direct link to setting up this service.  When you sign up you ensure that your generosity will be consistent and that we will have a steady flow of resources to keep our ministries running at full tilt.  If you think this feature would help you, please click on it now and you will be set up in no time.

As the Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 5:16 let’s “make the most of every opportunity” this summer!

Blessings,

Jim

GO!

GO! It’s what a green light means ... It’s what the opening bell in a boxing
match means ... It’s what you tell a 5 year-old t-ball player when he
finally hits the ball then stands around in the batter’s box watching it
roll ...

GO! It’s a signal to move out, look ahead, focus on a destination.

GO! It’s what Jesus told his followers back in the day, and today.

GO! It’s all about becoming an externally focused church, and it’s the
topic of today’s message by senior pastor Paul Basden.
