Way to Go!

I had an awesome breakfast this morning.  I’m not talking about the French Toast and bacon I had at The Depot in downtown Frisco, although it was delectable.  I’m talking about the conversation.  Sunday a young father came up to me after the service (I’ll call him Steve for now) and asked if we might get together sometime soon.  As it turned out we were both free this morning, and since he and his family are still relatively new to our community, I thought he might enjoy the local ambience at The Depot.

As we stepped up to order, he out-wrestled me for the check.  Darn that trick shoulder.  But, when our two hour breakfast was over, I knew I should have paid for breakfast.  I enjoyed hearing about his new job as a regional training director for a major corporation here in the Dallas area, how he and his wife and four children just relocated here less than a year ago, and how they all came to Preston Trail.

Steve and his wife, Lisa (not her real name) have a mixed marriage.  He’s Catholic and she’s BaptistJ  So, when they moved here they wanted to find a church that they could both agree on and grow in.  Sure enough, they got our Lettermanesque mailer last fall entitled, Ten Reasons Why People Don’t Go to Church.  Something about free doughnuts grabbed their attention and they came (Way to go Marketing Team!).

When they arrived they were met by warm and friendly greeters (Way to Go Welcome Team!).  Their oldest headed off toward Incite! our Student Ministry and in one Sunday was hooked (Way to Go Student Ministry!).  Before long their two elementary grade children couldn’t get enough of CurbSide.  Their son loved the small group atmosphere and a chance to hang out with other boys his age.  Their daughter came home talking about the value which had been taught during the large group time (Way to Go CurbSide Team!).  Their youngest got to play and learn upstairs in The Backyard and loved it, too (Way to Go Backyard Team!).

Steve and his wife had similar engaging experiences.  Though both believers in Jesus, they really sense a need to learn more about him and grow closer to him.  The visual and creative presentations in Worship inspired them to become more intentional about growing in their faith (Way to Go Worship and Tech Teams!).  Now they are interested in giving back and becoming involved in serving somewhere (Way to Go Steve and Lisa!).

As I got back in my truck to head home my heart was full.  Here was a family with four kids who came to PTCC and at every point they were met with caring people and excellent ministries.  As a result, their faith is being renewed and their family blessed.  I couldn’t help but want to yell out “Way to Go Preston Trail!”  Isn’t it incredible to see what God can do in the lives of people when they use their gifts and work together for a common mission?  Way to Go God! Thanks for giving Preston Trail such a powerful vision and faithful people!

Remember our Summer Schedule begins Sunday.  Everything starts at 10:00 AM!  Make note of one more thing.  We are moving CurbSide to Theatre 15 so we will all be on one side of the theatre.  If you’re going out of town have a blast and drive carefully.  If you are here this Memorial Day weekend, don’t miss the concluding installment of miTunes.  Paul will be spinning his message off of the Los Lonely Boys hit Heaven.

See you Sunday!
Jim

Weekend Service - The advent of the iPod makes it possible to take control of the music we listen to. We forget, though, that sometimes our music takes control of us. Listening to our playlists over and over can't help but shape our thoughts and actions. The question we should ask then, is our music telling us the truth? This week we continue a new series entitled Mi-Tunes. Over these six weeks Jim and Paul will examine some of today's most popular songs and help us hear what our music is really saying.
