The
Right Person
Throughout our brief history as a church,
God has always led us to the right person when we needed leadership
in any key area. Three years ago he brought Jenny Morgan our
way to be the new director of finances. She joined our staff
team and gave sound guidance to our financial processes and procedures.
She has shown professionalism and grace in all that she has done.
But a few months ago Jenny told us that her tenure needed to
end – she wanted to “retire
again” to stay home with her young son Luke. So we say goodbye
to Jenny, and we are filled with gratitude to God and to her for
her excellent leadership in this important area.
But we also say hello to our new director
of finances, Brenda Jacinto. Brenda comes to us from Make-a-Wish
Foundation in Dallas, where she has been financial director for
several years. Her role in that non-profit agency prepares her
uniquely for working at PTCC. (It’s questionable whether anything in her life has
prepared her for working with Jim and me …!) She brings
to this job an excellent track record and a skill set that will
guide us effectively in our financial responsibilities. Once again,
God has guided us to just the right person for a key task. And
we praise him for that!
On another subject, our worship planning team
has just spent two days on a retreat where we successfully forecasted
our weekend messages for 2007-08. After much praying and creative
thinking and brainstorming, we arrived at 12 months worth of
topics and messages that we think will challenge you and your
friends to “find
and follow Christ.” I’m super-thankful for the worship
staff at PTCC – each one is the exact right person for his
or her job. They are: Rod Padgett (worship), Jerod Chambers (video),
Jody Wissing (art), Randy Jeter (web), and Gwen
Lau (drama). Jim and I count ourselves blessed to work with such
creative (and sometimes dangerous!) minds.
Speaking of weekend messages, don’t miss what Jim has to
say this Sunday about parenting. He is going to focus on how to
train your children to get along with each other. I bet my mother
asked me 1,000 times, “Why can’t you get along with
your sister?!” I never had a good answer (other than I didn’t
want to, which was usually a bad answer). But Jim will give us
wise insights into guiding our kids to get along with others throughout
their lives.
Finally, I need your help as I’m preparing to teach on PRAYER
for four Sundays in July. In order to scratch you where you itch,
I need to know what you’re praying these days. So … I
want to ask you to send us some of your current prayers – anonymously – to
a website that we have set up for this purpose. Whether your prayers
are filled with praise or anger or fear or loneliness or thanksgiving,
would you send some of them to this new website? Just log onto www.7729.org and
write in your personal prayers. They are strictly anonymous, so
please be 100% honest with yourself and with God. What you send
will help determine how I craft my messages in this series. Thanks
in advance for your help.
I hope your summer is going well, and I hope to see you this Sunday,
Paul Basden, senior pastor
