The Richest Church in Town

In many ways PTCC is the richest church in town. Since wealth is measured in resources, think of our resources:

As any business manager or school principal knows, people are always the most valuable resource in an organization. At PTCC we are blessed with high-quality people! Our volunteers serve selflessly and joyfully as they “give their lives to help people find and follow Jesus Christ.” Our staff members are gifted, talented, and funny people, who also are completely sold out to living for Jesus Christ. We are truly rich in people.

“Location, location, location” is often the secret to success in a start-up venture. And what a location God has blessed us with in our new building! I know it’s not aesthetically beautiful like the Mansion on Turtle Creek – in fact, Jim refers to our facility as “Industrial Hip” and I just say, “If you like Home Depot, you’ll love our building!” But what a resource it is! It’s easy to find – you never have to explain what neighborhood it’s hidden in. And we have some of the best space in town for preschoolers, children, youth, and adults. Once we add more parking, we’ll be fully functioning. (BTW, we fixed that crazy worship center A/C this week, so we should be cool again on Sunday!) We are truly rich in location and facilities.

Finally there’s money. Cash. Dinero. Moolah. No church can function without it. It pays for ministries to all ages, it pays for staff to serve fulltime and part-time, it even pays utility bills! Without money, PTCC would close down its doors immediately. If you add up all the salaries of all the people who consider PTCC their home, we might be among the richest churches in town. But when you add up all the offerings that come in each week – especially this summer – we’re not. In fact, we’re facing a serious cash crunch today. During July our offerings have fallen behind our ministry budget by $22,000. And another $22,000 must be received by August 12 in our Dream Big fund in order to make our monthly bond payment on the building. I know vacations are part of the reason we’re behind, but church ministries keep going throughout the summer.

So here’s my appeal: please give generously to God’s work through Preston Trail. If you’ve fallen behind in your offerings, catch up as soon as you can. If you’re keeping up, consider giving extra over the next few weeks. That’s it.

The viability of this church is on the shoulders of every one of you. Period. God has arranged it that way. He could drop money from heaven all day long if he wanted to – but that’s not God’s way. God’s way is to give his best to us in Jesus Christ … then to ask us to give our best to him. That includes our hard-earned money.

In many ways we are the richest church in town. Now may God motivate us to give generously so that our earthly riches lead others to experience his eternal riches.

Paul Basden, senior pastor

The Road to Recovery

CBS News recently reported that half of the alcoholics in America are young adults. A federal study just found that 1 out of 12 fulltime workers in America have drug and alcohol problems severe enough to require rehab. Eating disorder treatment centers, once the haven of teens and 20-somethings, now have a new clientele: women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s.

We are clearly a society with plenty of hurts and hang-ups. Some are deadly addictions that can destroy life; others are harmful habits that can ruin relationships. All of them rob us of the “abundant life” Jesus came to give.

God wants to release us from these chains so we can live in freedom. And he tells us how in the Bible. For the next four weeks our senior pastors will speak on how to find healing and hope for our addictive behaviors, in a new series of messages entitled “The Road to Recovery.” Based on Jesus’ teachings in the Beatitudes, the messages will point us all to the life we’ve always wanted. Join us July 29, August 5, 12, and 19.
