TEACHER APPRECIATION
Sunday, August 26!

School is about to be back in session and we want to honor and affirm the teachers, administrators, and coaches who are a part of our church and community. Educating a future generation is one of the most significant callings in life. We will take time in each service to bless and pray for the educators in attendance and also present to them a special gift. If you are a part of the teaching profession we hope you will be a part of this special day. We don’t want to limit the kudos to just Preston Trailers. Feel free to invite any teacher, administrator, or coach who you think would be encouraged by a day of affirmation!

MEN'S MINISTRY KICKOFF EVENT
Join the Men’s Ministry of PTCC, Sunday Sept 9th from 5:30-7:00 PM for a chili supper, guest speaker, and a brief look into the Fall Men’s Ministry. We will have guest speaker, Jonathan Spinks, Former Undefeated Professional Fighter and Kickboxing Champion. He now shares Christ with the US military through the OSU Tour. Also, stay afterwards to watch the Cowboys opening game in hi-def on our big screens!

SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP
It’s not often that a church has a school in its backyard ... literally! Well we do -- and PTCC is partnering with Christie Elementary School this year to enrich the learning environment there through tutoring and mentoring students, especially those who are bilingual. To learn more, come to an informational meeting on Thursday September 6 from 7 to 8 PM, at the church building. Also, please sign up at the YES Table.

Honoring Teachers, Helping Students

Tax-free weekend … school supplies … classroom assignments … Add it all up and it means only one thing: a new school year is upon us!

Preston Trail Community Church loves teachers and kids, and we want to show it in two significant ways.

First, August 26 is Teacher Appreciation Sunday at PTCC. During each service we will interview two educators in our church, honor all teachers with a small gift (and big applause!), and pray for them to have a great year. If you are a teacher, coach, or administrator, we want to honor you this Sunday. If you know of someone who fits this description but does not attend church anywhere, please invite them to join you – we want to bless and honor as many educators as we possibly can!!! (Feel free to forward this email to any of your teacher friends that you want to invite or send evite here - INVITE A TEACHER.)

Second, our church has the unusual experience of having an elementary school in our backyard … literally! JW & Ruth Christie Elementary School is located directly south of our building. Believing that God puts opportunities in front of us so that we can work with him to meet needs in Jesus’ name, we met recently with the principal to ask if we could do anything to help the students there. Turns out that Christie is not only a super school, with super kids – it also just happens to be the only elementary school in the FISD that is bi-lingual. That means that there is a real need to help the children of Christie, especially those living in Spanish-speaking homes, to understand English. And there is a need to offer personal encouragement as these children learn to adjust to a new culture. God has placed in our backyard a school where we can make a significant impact by loving the students like Jesus loves them.

Principal Chris Hernandez has invited our church to “adopt” Christie and to tutor and mentor her students during the coming school-year. If you’re interested in knowing more about this service opportunity, come to an informational meeting on Thursday September 7 at 7 PM at the church building. We will tell you how this program will work and how you can plug in.

Jesus called himself “Teacher” and called his followers “disciples”, which simply means “students.” It is a privilege to honor those who teach our children, and to help those children who have needs we can meet. We do so in the spirit of Jesus, who came to earth to serve us and to give his life for us.

Hope to see you Sunday for a big day,

Paul Basden, senior pastor
